Description

This horseback safari, in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, offers exceptionally high standards of guiding, service, and accommodation, while not compromising on the true nature of being on safari. Experiencing this raw wilderness is what makes safaris so unique. Riding up close to elephant, lion, and buffalo, or galloping with wildebeest and zebra are life-changing experiences. If you are a rider, there is just no better way to see Kenya than from the back of a well schooled and fit horse. The Mara never fails to deliver outstanding game viewing from horseback, all year round. Whether you ride with the wildebeest migration from July to October or avoid the masses and opt for the warm, dry months of January to March the game viewing is always spectacular.

Types of horses: thoroughbreds and thoroughbred cross. They are all used for polo, and only the best polo ponies go on safari. They are responsive, tough, and fit.

Riding ability: you should be comfortable at all paces and able to gallop out of trouble. The rides are in “big game” country. You should be fit enough to ride for several hours a day. Weight limit of 210 lbs (95 kgs).

Length of rides: four to six hours in the saddle. You carry a picnic lunch in your saddle bag on moving days. One and a half to two-hour meal stops. Some walking on foot is necessary over rough terrain. Most of the rides in Maasai Land are on reasonably open plains interspersed with bush. They are short grass plains ideal for riding.

After four nights in the bush, look forward to relaxing and renewing on the beach. You will be taken to an idyllic hideaway set on a pristine private beach on Kenya’s South Coast, indeed the ultimate barefoot luxury experience. Enjoy the bliss of a deserted beachfront, swim in a sublime infinity pool, and sleep in a beautiful air-conditioned thatched-roof suite with unending views of the ocean.

Included
Daily meditation, restorative yoga, and energizing breathwork.

“This experience was originally curated for a family of five. It had been the dad’s fifty-year dream to go to Africa, and he wanted to do it as a horseback safari in the Maasai Mara with his sons, while his wife and daughter enjoyed the wildlife from the comfort of a privately guided vehicle. Their adventure was capped off with a relaxing few days at a luxury boutique resort on the Indian Ocean. It was a privilege to make this family’s dream come true.”
