This experience moves through Hanoi, Lan Ha Bay, Hoi An, Siem Reap, Bangkok, and Koh Samui, with food, culture, water, temples, markets, and time at the end to settle before returning home.
This itinerary lets you decide in advance which part will matter most. You may arrive thinking one place will be the highlight, then find that a meal, a river crossing, or a morning in a temple stays with you in a different way.
This journey is for the curious traveler. Someone who is open to seeing the world with fresh eyes and who values thoughtful company along the way.
If this sounds like the kind of travel you have been wanting, you are exactly who this experience was designed for.
Hanoi has been a capital city for over a thousand years and it carries that history in everything around you. The French Quarter, the temple by the lake, the railway cafe, the water puppets at night. You arrive somewhere genuinely new and the city asks you to pay attention immediately. That is the right way to begin.
From Hanoi you board a luxury cruise into Lan Ha Bay, a quieter stretch of the same coastline as Ha Long Bay, where dramatic limestone formations rise from calm water. One night on the water with no agenda beyond the day. The scale of it creates a kind of space that is hard to find anywhere else.
Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage town that has absorbed Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, and French influences over centuries and made something coherent and beautiful from all of them. You walk the ancient streets, make a silk lantern with a local artisan, and spend an afternoon at the Red Bridge Cooking School, exploring the market, cruising to the herb gardens, and preparing a meal with a master chef. Hoi A rewards the traveler who slows down and looks closely.
You arrive in Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor, the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire and one of the largest religious sites ever built. Your first morning begins before sunrise at Angkor Wat, watching the five spires emerge from darkness as the sky changes behind them. It is the kind of experience that puts everything else in a different proportion.
The days in Siem Reap move between temples and water. Banteay Srei, the Citadel of the Women, is carved entirely from pink sandstone with a level of detail that stops you. Banteay Samre dates to the 12th century. On Tonle Sap Lake you board a private wooden vessel to the floating village of Chong Kneas, a community built entirely on water where homes, schools, and markets rise and fall with the seasons.
The final evening in Cambodia is a set menu dinner with traditional Apsara dancers, a form of storytelling through movement that has been passed down through generations of Khmer culture.
Bangkok gives you three days and no two of them feel the same.
The first takes you through the Grand Palace, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho, and along the traditional canals by long-tail boat to Wat Arun. The evening is a Royal Thai dinner aboard the Manohra rice barge, cruising the illuminated Chao Phraya River.
The second day begins at Maeklong Railway Market, built directly over active train tracks, where vendors fold their stalls away as the train passes and reset the moment it clears. From there you spend three hours at Wat Mahathat Yuvaratrangsarit, one of Bangkok’s oldest royal temples, in a guided meditation session with an English-speaking instructor. That evening you board a tuk tuk for a Michelin-guided street food tour through the city at night.
On the third day you fly south to Koh Samui and the journey changes pace entirely.
The final days of the journey are deliberately open. One morning you take a boat to Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan for snorkeling and a walk to the viewpoint where three small islands connect by sandbars. The rest of the time belongs to you.
Maria leads two private group sessions here, one on arrival and one on the final full day, each running two to three hours in a dedicated space at the resort with tea and light refreshments. These sessions are the heart of the Sojourn Explorers experience: time to reflect on what the journey has given you, what you want to carry forward, and what you are ready to leave behind.
The journey ends with a farewell dinner.
