Description

The Great Wall, known in Chinese histories as the Ten Thousand Mile Long Wall, is far more than a triumph of engineering. It is an iconic wonder of the world, originally built to protect its states and empires against raids and invasions from nomadic tribes. It stretches form Dandong in the East to Lop Lake in the West. It is a direct link with China’s more that 2000 year-old fabled past. Seeing the snaking wall of brick, stone, tamped earth and wood over the parched mountainsides of northern China, across deserts, grasslands and plateaus is to imagine its rich history of political resistance and man made isolation from the rest of the world. An extraordinary experience you will always remember.

‘He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man’
~ Chinese Saying

Just like a gigantic dragon, the Great Wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 8,851.8 kilometers (5,500 miles) from east to west of China. With a history of more than 2000 years, some of the sections are now in ruins or have disappeared.
